The world premiere of Will Eno’s Middletown will open the 2010-2011 season at the Vineyard Theatre. The new play will begin previews on October 6, directed by Ken Rus Schmoll. Opening night and casting will be announced at a later date.
Middletown is described as a moving and funny new play exploring the universe of a small American town. As a friendship develops between longtime resident John Dodge and new arrival Mary Swanson, the lives of the inhabitants of Middletown intersect in strange and poignant ways in a journey that takes them from the local library to outer space and points between.
Eno’s play Thom Pain (based on nothing) was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and enjoyed a year-long off-Broadway run in 2004. Schmoll’s directing credits include The Internationalist at the Vineyard.
